Disk Defragmenting, Before & After

I been using a program called "Defraggler" to drfrag my laptop and desktop for sometime now but i decided to try using the Windows 7 disk defrag but this is how everything is displayed before and after a defrag is complete.

Maybe I am missing something but shouldn't it say 95% fragmented or something of the sort in the "after" picture?

You are trying to get rid of the fragments. The second picture should say 0% fragmented (in a perfect world). The first pic should say some % fragmented etc.

From the pictures it appears that a defrag was not required.

1) zero percent fragmentation means there is no fragmentation. 95 % percent fragmentation means your disk is highly fragmented. After defragmentation, the fragmentation percent goes down.

2) When the disk shows zero percent fragmentation, do you click on "Analyze disk"? That'll tell you if there is a need to defrag or not.

Yeah i make sure I hit analyze before I defrag anything. After the defrag was complete I hit analyze again and it came up with 0%. I had it backwards as I should have figured, just wanted to make sure.

On a side note, does anyone know if defraggler is a reliable program to defrag with? I saw it in one of Brink's tutorials on the Vista forums a while back.

Defraggler is alright, I recently started using this one Auslogics Disk Defrag - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com
Which I like better, but I'm sure everyone has their own preference.

If Im not mistaken, the built in defragger will consider defrag is not needed if its below 10% fragmented.


Everyone does indeed have thier own preferences.
Mine would be Perfect Disk. The best one I have found and comfortable with it.
