the title says it all. My cousin's HP laptop is experiencing this.
i can boot a windows 7 cd, but i should change the order first. CD drive then the main drive. 'coz when i put first the main drive, i can't boot the disk and disk error occured shows up.

i am doing a start up repair now.
i've been following other threads.. but i think this is getting me nowhere. it's been an hour now since i started the startup repair. it's still "searching for problems..."

what should i do?
thank you and good day!

okayyy.. so i finished the start up repair. whew! that took a lot of time.
it says.. "can't start the repair blah blah or can't repair.. report or dont send" something like that. hehe

so im back to zero .. again. haha

For backup from the non-bootable PC, you can use a Live Linux pen drive.

Emergency Kit - save your files from a dead OS by whs - Mint Mate ( approx. 968MB)

Peppermint3 - Create Live CD/DVD/USB To Use For Emergency Backup by Golden - Peppermint (approx. 588MB)

Lucid Puppy way to recover files from a non-bootable computer by one jumanji - Lucid Puppy (approx. 132MB)

You may choose the one that suits you. (The advantage of Lucid Puppy is its lean download, if that matters to you.)

In all cases you may use Rufus Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way to create your bootable pen drive with the downloaded ISO.

I think the Peppermint 3 link given by Golden now takes you to Peppermint 4 and the Menu could have changed. Try Try Peppermint OS LIVE in the Menu. That should perhaps work.

If it does not work for any reason, use my creation Lucid Puppy way. Lucid Puppy (Ubuntu-Compatible Build) version 5.2.8 lupu-528.005.iso from Download latest Puppy Linux release You may also try whs's Mint Mate way.

I have used only Lucid Puppy an a friend's unbootable PC and you know I had to read my own guide when it came to saving the data.:D Thank God I had documented the how-to in SevenForums.

it's not reading anything.
my back-up flash drive, may external drive.. nothing shows up :(

UPDATE .. again:

OOPS. I was able to take a screenshot and connect my flash drive at different port.
