Hello, I am posting this thread to explain my problem. I have windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and a graphics card "Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti". Everytime when I start up my computer the computer screen lags and then windows gives me a message "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered". I have realized that this only happens when I connect to a wifi network. I have searched the web if anyone else had a problem like this but it was no good and I started this thread. Thankyou for reading this and I'm hoping to see an answer to this.

"I also have tried different wifi, a PCI and usb wifi dogle"

I could be wrong but my PC does that sometimes .it you be the lack of power getting to your USB. I usually minimize what I have connected via USB and the problem went away .how many screens do you have total

OK when you have to ma y things plugged up via USB your computer has to run all those drivers at once and if your computer can't keep up the drivers sometime fails like you said. Also if you use a extender without an repeater the signal can get lost in the cable. Is this a desktop setup or laptop

I'm interested in this thread because the symptoms seem to mirror mine. Firstly I'm getting the occasional moment where my monitor blanks and I get an error of "Display driver has stopped working and has successfully recovered" and I too have an GForce video card, although mine's a 220. Secondly because I'm increasingly finding that each time I get a Windows update the "blank time" on boot increases. Currently when I boot I find that shortly after displaying the Windows logo the screen stops being output to for about 20 seconds. The monitor switches itself off and doesn't turn on again until I get the logon screen. It's worrying because the length of blank time seems to be slowly increasing each time I get a display driver update.

What interests me is the earlier comment re lack of power getting to a usb drive. I have one of my usb ports connected (via a 5m cable to the other side of the room) to a usb splitter hub, which is in turn connecting to 3 x 2Tb drives, a laser printer and an ink-jet printer.

I'm not quite sure how that's relevant - it's not the usb hub that's stopping working, it's the monitor. Surely that's not going to be affected by any delay in loading usb drivers.

No. It's power comes via a standard wall plug and the output is via the RGB port.

What does "running ow" mean?

My understanding was that Win7 defrags automatically and that you don't need to deliberately do it any more. Is this not the case?

Just checked: I have automatic defragmentation turned on. All my disks are showing 0% fragmented.

Update your Display driver.

Enable to Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware
then check optional Updates for newer drivers.

Next import the latest driver from the Support Downloads webpage for the Computer or Device model.

If this fails, try an older driver. Your installed drivers are all cued at Device Manager>Device>Driver tab>Update Driver>Browse>Let me Pick.

When installing the display driver, turn off the software package which accompanies it to keep it from causing problems. This can be done in msconfig>Startup.

Work through these other Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

Try each updated wifi device to see which works best, but don't run both at once.

Thanks. I already have automatic updates and the latest version but I'll try the rest of your suggestions.
