I have received the following error message 3 times today:

Display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

The message just started appearing today. No new software installed, but did Windows Updates yesterday.

Each time it has occurred I was using Firefox. This is on my desktop, an HP p6530f with Windows Home Premium 64 bit. According to device manager, the display adapter is the Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator HD with driver version 8.15.10.2040.

I have never had to deal with an issue like this, so I thought I would ask for some advice. Thanks.

Thank you. I will try that. It has been awhile since I did a good cleaning of the case.

I cleaned the inside up. Not a lot of dust, tho. However, I did find a memory module that did not appear to be fully seated. So far, so good. Computer seems to be more "snappy" now. Thanks for the suggestion. Will repost if problem re-appears.

I have gotten the same error message again - once yesterday and again today. Both times while using Firefox. After a few seconds the message disappears and the screen stays white. When I restart FF, the display returns.

I would like to use the Microsoft Fixit Wizard that is mentioned in the article. Do these Microsoft tools generally work? Also, would creating a system restore point prior to using the wizard be adequate for backing up the registry? Thanks.

if this error only occurs while launching Firefox, try to disable hardware acceleration
in FF go to options - advanced - general and untick "use hardware acceleration when available

Did step 1 in the Microsoft article using the Wizard (btw, it creates a restore point before running). I also had hardware acceleration enabled in Firefox so I disabled it. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the tips.
