Display Driver stopped Responding

I've built myself a new computer and can't seem to figure this error out. I can run on the internet just fine, watching videos and surfing the web. When I play a graphic intense game (Aion), it will let me play for a minute or two then I get the screen will flash a few times and go black.

"Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered succesfully." Is the error I get.

I have updated the driver for the Video card and Chipset to no avail. I did play Rise of Nations without any problems, but the game is pretty old and graphics are pretty bad. Does anybody know how to fix this issue? Is my graphic card overheating? Is it a problem with Windows 7? Any help would be appreciated. My specs follow.

I guess you have bios version 1207? Below link - downloads - select OS - bios - v1207 - this is easiest tool to update bios as you can do it from with in OS - ASUS Update V7.17.02 under utilities. 1207 is listed as the bios that supports the core i3 under CPU Suport List.

Once I've downloaded the bios update how do I run it to install? It's a zip folder and a .rom file pops out that windows doesn't recognize

You download the file 1207 from the site to your desktop make sure its unzipped by right clicking - if the extract option isnt greyed out select extract all - open asus update go to bios and the select search local disk or words to that effect and point it to the desktop - then bios folder and it will update the file.

are you running any utilities - sometimes they need to be adjusted to a higher threshold - you shouldnt damage anything - it would be one of the auto adjustments i would say - when you use a utility that accesses the bios it puts a heavy load on the cpu if there is some tool active while youe doing this it might register a higher temp and hence give an error.

I use probe with mine and it will start playing up if dont change its default thresholds - you can set them 5c higher dont go over 80c - i changed mine from 65c to 75c - it will warn you at 75c then - it never goes over 70c in any case - i also use a utility called q -fan and set it to performance and it saves the fan as it lowers the fan speed when the cpu is idle - yours - you will have to read up in your manual as its a later motherboard then mine.

I'm guessing when I ran the bios update it made my CPU hot? Flashing the ROM seemed to put a heavy toll on the comp.

I appreciate all the advice you've given me, I'm running Aion right now to check if it's changed anything. Will update you on the outcome.

Also, went to device manager and checked for updates for my Graphics card, windows says it's up to date. Not sure what version my driver is though.

108C is way to hot. You need to do something about that asap... How long ago did you build the machine and was this your first?

As for the driver issue... what make and model PSU do you have?

My guess this is the problem (cpu overheating) CAUSING ALL YOUR PROBLEMS - the bios update was probably incidental - when you attached the cpu did you use some kind of thermal paste - i would check that area thoroughly heat sink etc - sorry i only just read you built it yourself.

alright, so I want to roll my bios back but for some reason when I put the CD that came with the motherboard into comp during boot up it takes me to a screen talking about my drives, no option to reset bios. CPU speed still sitting at 219.. I watched it go from 90 all the way to 219 after I booted comp.. Fan speed climbs with it as well... Any Idea how to roll my bios back to previos version? Asus update utility won't let me..

I'm assuming the bios v1207 is causing my cpu to overheat because it never gave me that error when turning the comp on.

have you a floppy drive - you will need to read your manual - go to the site under bios utilities - i think there is 2 from memory - with mine you would have to use the afudos one to restore the original. Are you sures its the bios update - you said you built the pc - does this mean you bought all the parts and put it together - if so I would be checking that - you video overheats it stops working - you go into bios it overheats this normal but not to that extent - if you built it yourself its easy to get something wrong - anyway its up to you - you can reflash it to the latest version again .

read it in your manual - you mean reset the cosmos - im not sure as i ve never done it.
If you read your manual - try to find something you set in the bios to do with controlling fan speed - i m pretty sure it isnt the bios - thats my gut feeling, but im lost for suggestions.

Take a chance and try is always my suggestion - surely it cant make it any worse.

So it's normal for the CPU to get hot while in BIOS? I still haven't had my computer shut down on me yet from this issue. I did build the computer myself with a little help from the local computer shop. The guy at the shop did tell me he hated the fan that came with my CPU, said they're pretty cheap.

Well gonna keep the computer off for now, reverting to my phone for forum. im still assuming that the bios version i updated to is causing cpu to overheat. Manual is telling the only other way to rollback a bios is by doing it in bios with a flash drive that has the bios version i want on it
