I've been searching for a while now (Google, Sony, and here) and just can't seem to find the answer.
I recently purchased a new TV: Sony KDL-46XBR9 and have it networked (I do get streaming Netflix, YouTube, etc). I can also see my PC (specs linked below), but only a few folders show up for pictures and none for video. The TV specs state that it will handle jpeg up to 4096x4096, so that is not a problem.
On the PC, I have all media sharing settings allowed, my folders shared, and network discovery turned on, but I do not see the TV listed anywhere in my computer or my devices. It does show the Sony BDP-S470 Blu Ray as a media device, but the device does not share pix or videos.
My Xbox 360 is connected flawlessly as a Media Center Extender, but due to its reliability issues I don't like to run it more than needed for gaming. I didn't find anything stating that the TV could serve as an extender for MC. The weird thing is that it shows my PC and a few pic folders in the TV menu, but does not show the TV on the PC or network.
Do I need to find a DLNA driver (google just turns up warez downloads) or do I need a program like TVersity?
