I installed two years ago my 64bit Win 7 pro system on a desktop computer.
It runs fine so far. But recently I investigated the instalaltion with the often recommended tool
Crowdinspector.

Much to my surprise it shows my an installed and running service AgileVPN in folder
C:\Program files (x86)\WAN Miniport IKEv2\

See attached snapshot.

Antivirus shows no alert and Google research told me that it could be a standard driver for WiFi.

Hmm, I am using no WiFi. My desktop computer is connected by cable with the router.

So whats the purpose otherwise?

Moreover - and this is the most dubious issue - AgileVPN seems to NOT sleep but be connected to remote sites like mtw.ru and mastervps.ru

I would prefer to disable this service. Can I do this without harm?

Peter

If you did not install it and don't know of anything actually needing it, the best is to completely disable it and only reconsider when something crashes badly.

Specially for VPN, if you explictly didn't used it, to me it seems pretty much like a backdoor to your computer, typically used for distributed attacks or some other botnet or virus that is already sitting in your computer. I would disable and uninstall this thing as fast as you can, and closely monitor the services and network connections.
