Do you recommend using Windows DVD Maker?

Hi there people!!!

I'm planning on doing a lil' DVD with some pilates excersices for my mom (she asked me if I could do that for her) and I see that now I got a new utility called DVD Maker. I need to ask if you recommend this utility that came with my 7 instalation for creating a DVD... I used to have nero... but now has a crapload of stuff and changes sensitive configurations on my OS when I install it (basically, version 9 f***s up images, video and audio file asosiations, making them unavailable for thumbnails... so I have to repair that stuff and so... is quite tedious...).

WHat do you think guys? Is DVD Maker my option? or I need another program to get this acomplished?

I like it, but it is slow. To keep it from taking 3 hours, open task manager and change the priority. By default it is has a priority of "below normal". Increase it to above normal or high and it will make the DVD in a third of the time. You also need to look over every setting to make sure its right. I've tried Nero (got the paid for version for free with a DVD burner) and didn't like it nearly as much as DVD maker.

This would be a matter of preference and what features you need/want.

Nero 9 actually does quite good IMHO. I've found it to be superior to Windows DVD maker, and the results look better to me.
Again, preference.

What do you mean repair that stuff?

It does want to associate itself with most file types which is annoying. And, doesnt give the option not too.

But the easiest way around that, is through by changing the settings in default programs.
Set default programs and choose the app, (like WMP) and tell it to assciate all file type and you be back to Win7 default settings.
WMP & Photo Viewer should be the only 2 you need to worry about.


Aside from DVD maker and Nero (if you already have it) theres really no decent free programs Im aware of.

The other 2 decent programs Im aware of for creating DVD out of video (home video clips) would be Cyberlinks and Roxios Authoring software.
And of course, you must buy them

it's great to use if you edit the video with windows live movie maker then produce the video in the highest quality and then use windows dvd maker to burn it to the dvd disk the end product is fantastic.

Well... I tried DVD Maker, but no result... whenever it goes to the "Encoding" process, it reaches 8.9 percent, then ejects the DVD and says I couldn't complete the operation due to an error... it doesn't specify which error... I tried my DVD with ImgBurn (just burning random stuff) and works perfectly... but DVD maker refuses to make my DVD...

Any advice? or at least any program that could make DVD menus like this utility does? It doesn't matter if it not free...

I had that problem to at one time. I'm trying to remember what I did to solve it. I'm going to search the interwebs and report back when I find something that sounds right.

The best answer I can come up with is to make sure you are using the slowest burning speed and change the temporary file location. Make a new folder on your C drive for it and set that as the default file location. Also, you need to have a enough free room on your HDD. How much free space do you have?

Well... In C: (Window 7 partition) I got more than 30 GB free, in my data partition (E: ) I have more than 70 GB of free space, i dont list my xp partition because i will not use it... (basically i have 3 partitions, 15 GB for XP, 50 GB for W7 and 84 GB for my data)

I tried too in my laptop, y left the <predefied> option in the file locaton... it was about to burn the DVD... but after trying to do so, it stopped and gave the same error... but now the DVD has written data (corrupted i guess) and now I cannot use it ... lucky of me I bought 3 dvds XD IN my laptp I got anly 2 partitions, W7 with more than 40 GB free, and my data one with more than 150 GB free... (here I have 60 GB for W7 and 172 GB for my data)

I'm getting frightened about this soft... I hope it doesn't f**k another dvd again

Are you sure there is nothing wrong with the file you are trying to burn? What is the files type?

Been using Windows DVD maker. Its a nice program but yes its slow. I still use it as it never failed me.

Are you sure there is nothing wrong with the file you are trying to burn? What is the files type?

They are WMV file format... Media Player has no problems with them... downloaded with aTube Catcher from Youtube (just for personal use)

Ok... lowered burn speed and set the temp files to C:\DVDtmp folder (which I created before burning)... same... it reaches 8.4 percent, then changes to 98.9 percent, ejects my DVD and sys it cannot burn my disc

How can I get this thing working?

you can try dvdflick it is free and a good dvd maker, it will also put more content on the disk, i think windows dvd maker is limited to 150 min. i like and use windows dvd maker i tend to use dvd flick more often.

Tried that and many others... but they don't do what DVD Maker does... at least with the title menu... in DVD maker you can do active title menus with movement... but other don't offer that and I think that this feature is neat!

In case there is no solution for me in DVD maker, is there any software that can do that?... if not... I guess that my only solution will be installing nero again... (I hope version 8 can be used on W7... version 9 sucks...)
