Just got Windows 7 and now in IE8, whenever I drag a picture from the internet to my desktop I get the following message:

Do you want to allow files from the website to be copied to your computer?

It's pretty annoying, what's the best way to turn it off? Thanks

For starters, you need to upgrade IE8 to IE9 or IE10 (preferably IE10). IE9 and IE10 are far more secure than IE8.

As annoying as the pop up is, it's there to protect you. By popping up every time something is being downloaded to your computer, it will stop any unwanted downloads, such as from malware, from sneaking onto your computer. It takes only two seconds to click on it, one of those seconds being used to actually read the pop up to make sure it is something you want. The same goes for the UAC pop ups. They can be as annoying as an itch you can't reach but they prevent processes from starting up without your knowledge. I keep mine set for the highest level. So far, it hasn't killed me.

I agree with what Lady Fitzgerald said and I also keep the UAC setting on the highest level (one notch above the default setting). Once you start to get a feel for what kind of things that can prevent, you will come to appreciate it as opposed to putting up with it.

If you decide to move to IE10, then consider enabling 64 bit tabs for added security:

You can still drag images to your desktop (or into most any other folder) from within IE9 or IE10. But starting with IE9, you can also drag a tab off to a new window or rejoin it to any other IE window.

If you do not like the way that IE9 or IE10 looks, it is not hard to make them both look more like IE8. See this post for screenshots of IE8, IE9 and IE10 as they appear by default. See this post for a screenshot of IE11
