does ammount of RAM affect download performance?

I have win 7 ultimate 32bit installed on nforce2 based motherboard with 1GB of RAM. When I have something turned on (e.g. Winamp) and start to downlod, speed is decreased almost in half. If I close aplication, speed isincreased.
Any idea?

Yes, Ram will affect your download rate 'indirectly'. The applications you have open will take up physical ram. once you initialize a download, the file is sent to memory, creates temp file, moves temp file then releases. Your 1 Gb of ram is taken by sytem/apps. Your decrease in "speed" is your machine making up for lack of physical ram by using your virtual ram/HDD

I will try and explain.
The download speed on the internet is not related to the amount of RAM you have BUT
the amount of RAM is a factor when you are downlaoding to your Hard Drive as well as using another program.

I think your question should be is if I get 2 gig of ram will things run faster.
Answer Yes.
