What OS were the drivers for? win 7, vista, or XP?
If vista, or XP they need to be installed in compatibility mode
right click the installer>properties>compatibility>check correct OS

They were in XP but the file they gave were a self extracting one, and i can't seem to get it to work. There is no .exe file to start working.I put the CD to run but it does not have the driver, from what i recall it installs itself when i used it in WINDOWS XP.

Try this.
ScanGear CS-U
It doesn't seem to have W7 or Vista.
Also i notice it will unzip to a spefic location:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp

If the above doesn't work we can try forcing the install through device manager using the.inf file. Post back If needed I can walk you through it. Fabe

i hope it's not too late for me to post here. i'm having the same problem. i downloaded the last one you shared, and i guess it seems to be installing fine? then when i restart the computer and connect the scanner, it doesn't detect anything.

It works on Windows 7, 32bit, not Windows 7 - 64bit.

How does i install CanoScan D646U ex?
I installed with the CD, with out the driver, because it doesn't exist, i downloaded the driver, installed (or tried), but the scanner isn't detected, is it possible to install using the Device Manager? When i connect the scanner USB cable on the computer, appears CanoScan on the Device Manager, i clicked to update the driver using the internet, but it doesn't find, i tried to find the driver on the computer, but i didn't find, the driver is installed in ''C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp'', i'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit. Can someone help me?

You will have to download the XP driver. Right click and install in "Compatability" mode.
It may work. If not they have no newer driver listed at Canon.
Unplug the USB cable and wait for driver install to finish or prompt window to tell you to plug in the scanner.

2. right click my computer - properties - Device Manager
3. plug ur USB device (scanner)
4. right Click scanner - Properties - Update Driver - Browse my computer for driver software
5. put at folder C:\Users\ or myber just C:\
6. aaaaand Finish ... try ur scanner
