Hi Guys

Some time ago I read in a magazine article about a uninstaller program but I don’t remember what magazine it was in.
The reason I ask is I am a little fed-up with the windows or the program uninstall program only removing some of the program and not all the traces of the unwanted program leaving part behind.
In this article it recommended one to use.
So does anyone have any recommendations of a good one to use I not bothered if its free or paid I just want a good one that works
Or are they just as bad as the windows version
Regards :sarc:

Best method is before the fact...i use an old version of Total Uninstall which takes a snapshot before and after installing an app...
Unfortunately it is no longer Free and the old version is hard to find.

My method of totally removing a program is the safest & surest way to completely do it IMHO, is to make a system image using Acronis's One Click back-up before installing an app, then if it is not satisfactory do a restore.

I always create a system Restore point before installing any new software and then do a restore if I do not want to keep it.

And Revo Uninstaller Pro if I want to uninstall later. The paid version of Revoinstaller Pro can monitor the system changes during install and then undo them when uninstalling.

Welcome
Dont use the uninstaller unless necessary. It does remove everything and possibly too much. It gets into registry and many times is too aggresive, I agree with Greg.
Just uninstll with Seven.

I've never used a program like that either. When I uninstall a program, I then run CCleaner to scan for leftover files or registry entries that pertain to the software I just removed.

It's interesting that many of us recommended Revo by habit early on during beta until we learned the various tolerances of the OS and gradually dropped recommending it except as a troubleshooting tool for problem uninstalls.

I don't worry about leftover reg keys unless they cause issues and the ones I've found that do usually have been left behind in msconfig>Startup or msconfig>Services after uninstalling a program. This is another reason why I run a completely clean boot except for AV, gadgets/stickies and Skydrive.

On the dirtiest PC"s I've cleaned up over the years which greatly benefited from DIsk and Registry cleanup, those which stick in my memory because of 12-15gb of schmutz CCLeaner found in files and up to 1500 leftover reg keys, it is the files which seem to have slowed WIn7 most - but nowhere near the impact it had on XP for that level of crap.

Win7 has amazing tolerance especially in the registry leftovers. What it doesn't tolerate is reg cleaner/optimzer scamware which modify and trample on the registry.

Hum Greg I recently had a machine with 35GB of "clutter" on it it took a very long time on just one pass to clean that.

Another time the only way I could get rid of the AVG bar was delete the reg entries in the HKEY software entries. But that was out of desperation and not for the faint hearted.

Easier is not always better. Both my C drives are 45gb and only have a few files on them. Everything I have is stored on external hdds. Back-ups take under 10 minutes, restores are even faster.

A nice clean fresh install is great. Keeping it that way is also great. That is why I use the little program to do the computer laundry. One must be careful with some programs or they will do a lot of damage. Programs are like tools. Learn how to use them properly. If in doubt ask here first for help. Reading the Help section of such programs does Help.
