I'd installed windows XP about 3 months ago because of a faulty RAM, and now would like to switch back to Windows 7. And now I have only 512 MB of RAM left. So, my question is that will windows 7 handle 512 MB perfectly or will it run slowly?

You can run the update advisor for a baseline test, but 512 MB is below the recommended ram. Visit the following site for more details;

Yes it will run slowly if it installs and runs at all.

Most likely you'll have troubles and slowdowns when running anything more complex than notepad :p

The "official" minimum memory for Win7 is 1GB and for good real-life performance I would not go below 2GB really. 512MB is a long way from that. For that system, it's much better stay with XP.

Personally I think what Greg said is probably on the money mate anymore than a boot is going to chew that RAM up.

I run an oldish tester witha Q9650 quad core ona board that only accepts 4GB and it is a slow boot and when everything is up and running I am always over 2GB RAM used.

Good to know. On the step in Optimize tutorial to edit visual effects, you can save a lot of RAM and have hardly any noticeable change by editing out fading, sliding, animation, dragging intact and selection rectangle.
