Does Windows VirtualPC "XP MODE" works if downgrade (win10) ?

Hi.

Some years ago I was lucky, and got my hands on the HP Probook G 650.
A enterprise laptop with a real rs-232 serial port.
And it was shipped with Windows 7 Pro.

It supported the so called Xp Mode
a full virtual XP 32-bit professional SP3 system (.VHD)
that runs quickly, on the same license. Shared hardware, com1.
1. But how about If I buy a new laptop, these days only shipped with Windows 10 Pro ?

2. Is it possible to "downgrade" and revert it to the Windows7 pro instead ?
And If doing that process, I have to know and be sure the xp-mode can be activaded

Yes, Windows XP Mode will work on the computer if the computer has Windows 7 Pro or above. The challenge to downgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 7: you will have to gather information about all the relevant chip-sets and devices that will need Windows 7 drivers downloaded and installed in order to work smoothly and efficiently with Windows 7 Pro. I highly recommend making a full image of your present OS partition onto external media - until the downgrade has been proven a success for a month or more.

Not all laptops with win 10 are able to install Win 7. Win 7 isn't compatible with Secure Boot. If the new laptop doesn't have a option to disable Secure Boot and enable CSM (Compatible System Mode), you can't install Win 7, only Win 10 and Linux.

You still find new computers with win 10 pro with downgrade rights (best option). Look for professional laptops from Lenovo, HP, Toshiba and Dell.

Hi.
Thank you guys.

I am lucky, I have the option to buy a brand new HP laptop that´s shipped with
Win7 Pro installed and prepared

Intel core i7 2.6 GHz
256GB SSD
16GB RAM DDR4 2133 MHz / PC4-17000
802.11b, 802.11a, 802.11g
Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet,
Bluetooth 4.2, 802.11n
15,6" LED screen
1 DisplayPort
1 VGA
2x USB 3.0
1x USB type C
1x RJ45
1x Serial (native port. RS-232 )

(win10 upgrade available)

And I recently downloaded the installation program for "xo mode" and will probably
get this up and running with ease.

I should have posted: IF the laptop can take Windows 7, then one can do the Windows XP Mode thing. Thanks to a previous poster for reminding me :)
