Hi... Sevenforum members.


this thread will give you the means to find what Hardware is contained within your machine... this will help others to help you.

once you confirm what components you have....

OK....

for your ...CPU, RAM, Motherboard, use this app.

upon opening this app it will show you .....CPU make & model, current speed, voltage.

the ''Mainboard'' tab will give you...... Motherboard make & model, PCIE bandwidth, BIOS version

the ''memory'' tab will give you...... , amount of installed RAM, current speed, current timings.

the ''spd'' tab will give you....... RAM make & model, standard ''JEDEC'' timings (these are the timings your sticks run at out of the box)

you can either run 1 instance of the app, or more (as shown in pic)

for you GFX card use this app.......

upon opening this app it will show you...... GPU make & model, current speed, driver version.

it also contains its own ''sensor'' for detecting card temperatures.

with the information from these 2 applications you can practically fill out all ''internal'' PC specs, alternatively when posting a problem these are very handy to snip & post.... a picture speaks a thousand words...

If you want more details you can also try PC Wizard 2008.1.871 ( CPUID ) it gives additional details the above program doesn't.

The CPUID is x86 only right? That's what it says in the upper left of their site. I have never tried it because of that. 64 bit here.

Another freebie many don't seem to be familiar with however is much more thorough especially more then CPU-Z called SIW | System Information for Windows by Gabriel Topala

Not only does that list the makes and models for every hardware board included as well as cpu, hard drives, video and sounds cards, memory, temps and voltages as well it also lists all 3rd party programs as well as the OS installed on the system. The column goes right off of the screen for catagorizing each item.

Thanks Nighthawk, never heard of before either, I love this program, shows me even all of my passwords, show serial numbers for all software and programs, complete metadata readings. There's too much to list, however I like Everest for system info a little more.

Everest is more of a bench marking program there. The SIW tool on the other hand is more of a specific system information gatherer that can really help out at times when you don't know the make and model of any hardware.

Here I used to use SiSoftware's Sandra lite often enough as well as a few others for knowing voltages, temps as well as bench marking results.

This is my CPU as reported by CPU-Z... it is an awesome little small footprint program.

The motherboard is reported...

as is your RAM and even CAS timings, frequency, command rate, etc.

And the GPU reporting couldn't be more comprehensive.

I have a question, though. How'd did you link your thumbs to larger photos? It looks like a Photo Gallery, but I don't know how it's linked on here. The larger pictures take up so much bandwidth. I just copy and pasted these here... sorry. I wasn't sure how to link a thumbnail to something like Photobucket.

I ran into a little program called 'SpeedFan' that reports all voltages, temps., (obviously) Fan speeds and even controls to change/adjust fans and voltages... if it's connected to the SMBus, SpeedFan can sense/change it. And it's free! Here's the link:

I'm well aware of that one as well as another you may not be familiar with for temps being CoreTemp for that part of things. The SIW tool on the other hand provides a lot more then the hardware but also every program you have on seeing any registry entries.

I have about 2 or 3 versions of SpeedFan as well as several tools stock piled in a few folders on the main storage drive I'll be running on the RCs for various tests as well as compatibility issues. The automatic bug reports from any and all crashes will make 7 better in the long run since those go right to MS anyways.

I've been using SIW for a year now and it's been very usefull. I think it's the best all around information tool and it works with 32 & 64bit OS.
