My wife downloaded the most recent update for windows 7 pro. Upon reboot, the pc is stuck in the "please wait" screen. Have tried safe mode, safe more with networking. Nothing seems to work. Is anyone else having issues with the update? Any advice?

how long have you tried waiting to see if the system was just taking awhile to process the update for whatever reason?

Also have a pretty bad speaker setup which is a klipsch promedia 5.1 surround speaker setup with huge subwoofer and lg blu ray player/writer. Also a hp officejet pro 8600 plus wireless all in one and a logitech s7500 webcam.
I have been waiting for about two hours. My fear is that the hard drive might be failing

I am having the same problem. I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate on a Lenovo laptop two weeks ago, there was 289 updates, installed them all, restart, shut down, and two weeks later it magically downloads and installs more while the computer is off, I turn it on, it configures updates, automatically restarts, and after restart, it has been on the "Please wait..." for four hours now!

I am wondering if an update is causing this. I Googled the problem and this came up with a June 2016 timestamp, I wonder if it is the same update the OP has
