Hi all,

Last night I did something pretty dumb and must have gotten my laptop infected in some way after downloading something from "www.roms43.com". As soon as this happened, my computer started freezing and windows explorer crashed. I restarted my computer and attempted to run a full scan using Trend Micro but when I tried to scan, windows explorer crashed once again. This happened a few more times before I booted up in safe mode and ran Malwarebytes & Kapersky. From what I could see, the only unwanted software put onto my computer was "Super Optimizer" which I was able to successfully remove.

During somewhere in the middle of all of this, Windows 7 began freezing on the "Please Wait..." screen when attempting to boot the computer normally. In safe mode, everything works perfectly.

I am coming here hopeful that anyone could assist me on this matter. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I ran the System File Checker tool and it came up with "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

Try a system restore to a date prior to the issue.

Also, I see both Kaspersky and Trend Micro in System Specs. If both are AV, uninstall one.

I tried that, there is no previous states to restore to apparently.
Might just have to reformat the thing.

Try in F8 menu - "Last Known Good Configuration"

Check Programs and Features (sort by date) to see if anything else was installed last night.

Also try Tweaking.com - Windows Repair (get the portable version).

Last Known Good Configuration does nothing.

Already checked programs and features. Nothing new.

Currently am trying to format the computer using a windows repair disc which was created using the option to burn to a disc in control panel but am faced with an error: "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows."
