Plus you can only downgrade to Windows Xp x64 since your pc its loaded with 8GB of ram. So IMO it woul be better to stay with Windows 7

Is this a new computer that came with Windows 7?

If so you will need to go to HP's web site and look it up to see if they have the drivers for Windows XP. Many of the laptop/notebook/netbooks vendors no longer have drivers for machines loaded with Windows 7. I have run into this several times, where special software would not work in Windows 7 so they needed to downgrade, then we found out we could not load XP on the machine because there were no drivers. If HP has the drivers you will need to download them and copy them to floppy disks, especially the drivers for the Hard Drive controller, Video Card, and Network Card. Once you have those 3 running you can download the rest from the internet, etc. However I would have them ready on a USB drive much better than downloading while setting up the machine fresh. Make sure you apply service pack 3 as soon as possible so you will have base firewall protection before you go surfing the internet.

Good Luck.

you can downgrade to XP but remember MS stop support XP SP2 by July 2010 and then SP3 by 2014 so wont support after 2014 so best stay with Win 7 but that up to you to decide.

Hi there
I doubt if I'll still be using ANY of my current hardware in 2014.

However why not run XP as a Virtual machine -- W7 X-64 with 8GB RAM can run a WHOLE SLEW of XP virtual machines.

A big problem with running XP on modern hardware is that disk drives are SATA -- if you've got SATA drives then unless you do a bit of "Slipstreaming" and "Vlite-ing" of your XP install disk before installing then XP won't find any HDD's.

Running XP's as Virtual machines won't have this problem -- and you can tailor each XP virtual machine to run exactly how you want.

I'd go down this route if I were you -- It's VERY easy to create XP virtual machines with VBOX or VMWARE.

Cheers
jimbo
