Hello,
I posted before and some how never got any results. Probably my fault. I upgraded to Windows 7 ultimate from XP home. All seems well and things are still pretty fast. When I do bandwidth speed tests, my results in 7 are 1.5 Mps download. In XP they were almost 3 Mbs in XP. I'm paying for 3 Mbs and I have always been close to that until I started using 7. I have tweaked everything to the best performance. Disabled all the eye candy and visual effects etc. Just wondered if I have missed something. I have 160 gig hd with only 1/4 used. 2 gigs memory. 3.2 gig Intel Pentium processor. I have disabled all non essential items. Any ideas on this? Thanks,
John

seems this is a big problem with win 7,i went from vista to 7 64bit and my ping in games has doubled, ive searched all over the net with no luck in finding cure.
My downloads have also slowed down.If xprpo 64 bit wasnt so expensive id go that route,oh well time will tell.

Just for testing purposes, open msconfig/startup and disable all items except for your anti virus, reboot then test... let us know the results.. ;)

Are you sure you havent exceeded your download limit? Many ISPs have a fair usage policy and when that happens, they throttle speeds to half. Check the fine print of your broadband plan, also check with your ISP.

I'm a little concerned about unchecking all those things. I'll check with my ISP, but I don't think they would have changed their policy just when I upgraded to 7 from xp:)

Could be true.certain ISP have their download limit sort like 5gb per month, exceeding it made the downloading, surfing slow. Less chance that this is the cause as well it might be true

That can't be the cause. My laptop, which has XP, still downloads at 2.9 out of 3 Mbs bandwidth, and it's wireless. So this is either in W 7 somewhere or my computer won't handle it. According to the minimum specs to run 7, I have more than enough mem. hd space, and processor etc. I still load pages pretty fast, most of the time. It's just the download speeds that are slow.

That funny you mention this,i also had a laptop presario c500 all intel based with win vista HP,my ping times were around 100-112mls,then when i went to amd based pc with win 7 64 bit my ping was 200-400,My downloads also slowed.
I just purchased a NIC from newegg to see if it helps, after that im all outa ideas.

jsmoline, do you connect to the internet through a router or directly? If you connect through a router, you should find the speeds it gets from the ISP in its network interface.

Btw, disabling ipv6 won't make a difference, looking for updated drivers for your network card might.

Can you check whether Windows 7 is using 802.11g, not a or b?

You only need ipv6 if you are running a home group network. Ipv6 is a newer protocol and is not widely used. You can disable it in services. If you need help with this, let us know.

With a name that suspicious, I wonder how you didn't think of killing it before ever coming here. :D

Now go for the full kill, uninstall that criminal! (to be on the safe side, if you decide to do that, go to Programs and Features to do it) :D
