Drag and drop to desktop

I used to be able to drag a file from a folder to the desktop by holding the left mouse button down. Then using ALT as well to chang ethis to a short cut. This does not work now. Is there some setting that has been changed like accessability. I have searched everywhere for this.

Dragging across imiditaly puts a copy on my desktop without leaving me time to select ALT and let go of the mouse button.

If you drag and then press and hold alt before releasing the left mouse button then it creates a link for me.

How long has this been happening for you?

No I do not ge t a chance to press and hold ALT. Unless I can acheve this in less than a thousanth of a second. It litteraly happens in less than a second. It crerates a copy.

Yes with the mouse button still pressed. I don't stand a chance.

Problem appears to be solved.

When I posted the thread I was shown some similar threads. Can't locate them now but it said something like
At the start prompt text box enter CMD
Then enter regsvr32 /i Shell ... {Cant remember the last bit}

It came up with an error
The module shell32 was loaded but the call to DllInstall failed with error code 0x8002801c

I went to c:\windows\System32 and rt click on cmd.exe run as administrator. This time regsvr32 /i ... worked.
Why I do not know as under users I am the administrator.

This somehow seems to have solved the problem but I do not know how or why.

If this is a recent thing do you have a restore point yo can go back to using system restore?

Glad that is sorted for you otuatail.

I usually don't drag and drop using the left mouse button but use the right. In that case you get a popup asking what you want to do. Copy, move or create link. I find this more useful as I don't then have to remember whether I am dragging between partitions or not.

Instead of Drag and Drop, try Sendto (in the right click menu).

No false alarm.

The problem is back again. I have typed this into web browses and found lots of windows 7 users experiancing the same problem. This never happened in XP or Vista.
