Drive C:\ won't open, Error "This file does not have a program asso.."

My Drive C:\ won't open upon double click on it. Prompted an error "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if once is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs in control panel."

It appears that whenever I click the C: drive, it is defaulted to "CMD" instead of "open". When I right click the C:\ the first selection listed is CMD instead of Open.

I am using Sony Vaio, Windows 7 Ultimate OS and 64-bit.

explorer.exe is acting up temporarily. One possible solution, sneaker-net from another computer tweaking.com's portable Windows Repair (All in One), boot the usb stick or DVD, or, boot windows into Safe Mode with Networking, accept defaults and add items #26 & 27; wait, wait some more. Restart once if not twice after it says it is finished. NOTE: sometimes this fixed explorer.exe, sometimes it did not fix explorer.exe.
I hope you have a restorable OS partition backup - in case this becomes the last resort.

I tried those steps but it did not resolved the issue. I'm still getting the error once I attempted to click the C:\ drive.

Looking for some other options to resolve this issue..

You may be forced into restoring an OS partition backup. But, before doing that, await and see if others have a solution.
