this is just a random question that has been puzzling me, l have an 80GB partition for my OS, out of that 80GB lm using 52GB now that wouldnt be strange unless you consider the fact that when l select the following folders: User, Windows, Program Files (both of them as l still use some 32bit progs), and all the other related system folders in root of C and according to the properties tab lm using no more than 25GB.

where is all my space going? other folders l didnt select had nothing in them as l had already backed them up.. is there something lm missing here (and l dont mean hidden files and folders)

l assumed that as well, so l cleared my restore points but that only changed the space by 4gb, so l have about 24/25GB that doesnt seem to be allocated anywhere l can see so there must be something hidden in the root somewhere that l cant unhide.

You can use a program to check where everything is and its size. This is a decent program, "WinDirStat". Link; "http://windirstat.info/"

I just downloaded it, and the file is safe, installed and works.

I'll add that this program is pretty cool, it actually shows the composition of your hard drive visually, you can spot any file and select it.

lm sure l'll find other things to fix :D lm the resident expert on it with the locals around here :p mainly because most of them are upgrading from XP and they suddenly see a whole new GUI they arent used to XD
