Hello,

I have a Sony Vaio that just recently started freezing after startup for no apparent reason.

I initially thought the freeze maybe caused by the HDD so I purchased and installed a SSD (the computer needed updating anyway.)

Along with the SSD, I put a fresh install of Windows 7 on the machine. The computer still froze randomly.

Next, I switched out one stick of ram at a time to see if either (the computer has two sticks) maybe causing the fault. Nothing...same random freezing.

Then, I noticed that if I move the computer, that's when everything freezes...cursor and all. I thought, "loose connection somewhere."

Lastly, I notices that when I start in safe mode w/networking, the computer DOESN'T freeze! Moving the machine around or not.

This has led me to believe the freeze is being caused by a driver of some sort... but,

How do i determine WHICH driver is causing this? (i also have set the bios back to default..no fix)

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks...

I would start with the mouse driver, followed by the video driver(s). Does everything look OK in devise manager?

Thanks for the reply madcratebuilder.

Below is an image of the drivers of which the only one that had an exclamation point next to it was the "Other Devices>>Base System Device" - I disabled it...didn't help.

From the looks of it, I am unable to "disable" the Mouse. The only option is to "uninstall it". If I uninstall it, not sure how the heck i'll get it back!

Ill try disabling the video driver(s).. Is that the "Display Adapter" in the image below?

Disabling the "Display Adapter" didnt help.

The more I examine, I question if its indeed a driver causing the freeze? When I look at device manager in and out of safe mode, there is only one difference. Maybe I don't understand what safe mode is.

see image...no real difference. Should I move this thread? Help, help!
