its listing it as generic plug and play monitor. i cant seem to find windows 7 drivers for my monitor Dell E171FPB. plz help with this. i would also like to know the benefit of updating this driver? better display?

Drivers for this monitor will probably serve no purpose given they are almost 9 years old. They probably wouldn't work anyways. I wouldn't worry about it.
