Solved Driver power State Failure

hello everyone, my computer has been crashing every couple of days and i was wondering if anyone could help me out. I recently got a new computer and it has windows 7 home premium, intel i5 2500k processor, Amd 6670 graphics card and 8gbs of ram. when it crashes it says driver power state failure, i checked the event viewer and it says a Kernel power critical error occurred, not sure how to resolve the problem. How are you turning off the machine? Clicking the Orb and selecting Shut Down or pressing the power button?

well usually i leave the computer on all the time just on sleep mode, but when i get a blue screen i have to press the power button.

Hello Angel, welcome to SF!

Your last dump was indeed a driver power state failure. See below for future reference.

The driver that caused it is a graphics driver. So the first thing to look at is the advanced powersettings for your graphic card.

Second, please show us what your current powerplan settings are?

Can you go into the advanced settings of the powerplan and look at the energy settings for your graphical card?

i went into advanced and looked under pci express but it did not give me any information on the energy settings.

My display turns off after 15 mins of being idle. Current power setting is D0

Please test by setting the display to a much longer period ( an hour ) and set the sleep setting to much less than that i.e. 30 mins. Please post back results.

alright, i set the display to an hour and sleep to 30 mins and nothing happend, it was on all night and it did not get a blue screen.

You can easily get rid of this problem by updating the driver or doing a fresh install. Before that try to figure out which hardware is causing the problem using device manager. More details here - How to Fix 'Driver Power State Failure' Error in Windows - PAS
