Driver to connect to wireless network

Hi,

Im pretty new to windows 7 and all but my mom bought me this new computer and it has windows7 as OS, ive always used windows xp so im not very knowledgeable about the system and now it says i cant connect to the wireless network. Is there any drivers or something i can install to make it work? My mom asked my uncle to look into it, idk what he did but he said the drivers wasnt out yet for windows 7.

Its a stational comp if u didnt get that already.

what's the make and model no. of the wireless adapter that you are you using..?

Hi xArch , welcome to the forums , Have a look in device manager and see if your network card is listed. if it is right click on it and "update driver" , If you would be so kind and tell us the manf/model of your pc we will be able to assist you further

bugmeister, is there a way to check what modem it is without rly looking at it? its kinda hard to reach, il do it if its needed tho

Welcome to SevenForums xArch, Yes thats the way to do it dl to another pc and then transfer your dl to the hp
You are connecting to the router by a cable right or do you have a wireless adapter? Good luck to you with your problem

- actually, I thought you had an adapter (dongle)
- a network card is something different altogether..

- as recommended, you'd best go via HP's support/download site
- they should provide the essential updates to the drivers for your rig..

Pebbly, i tried installing that network driver on the link u posted and i dont think its a network driver, it says its supposed to reduce delay during startup. I tried to download it anyways but it didnt work.

Can anyone confirm that its possible to connect a Staionary comp. with Windows 7 as OS to a wireless network? because some people i know says that windows 7 is missing alot of drivers because its still new.

You did say that this is a new pc right. HP would have a driver installed with it. Did you go to Device manager and see if you can find a mention about a wireless adapter. Also try hooking to your router with a cable and when you get online Window 7 will be able to find you a driver for your wireless if one is not present. Are you going to Network sharing center and asking the wizard to connect to a new network. Lots of things have not been tried yet before you need to buy something. Good luck to you with this problem. Dude really simple fix search on Hp's site for a Vista Driver, they are cross compatible. it will get the NC Going after an install and reboot, although you really need to look at the Card Type/Manufacture Model to get the correct driver. It should say on the Box For the HP or if its new it would have come with a Driver CD and it should be on there under LAN or WAN folder.

@myzr7: There isnt anything about a wireless adapter in my device manager. Ive tried connecting the comp to the router and that works, but it doesnt take up any wireless signals.

I bought a couple of Rosewill Wireless USB network adapters to test on my different computers. Model RNX-EasyN1 So far they have worked on win98, w2k, XP, & win7 to see several secured & unsecured networks near me.

@ windows sniper: my moms horrible at comps and stuff so she's thrown away that stuff so idk how to find out manufacture number or what type of card. since im used to xp where most of the things run smoothly.

@DocBrown: Il think il try that out. Im not used to having problems detecting and connecting to wireless network so im not sure if its something thats blocking it or if its just that my stationary lacks a adapter to receive wireless net.

Did you dl the link Doc gave you and let it search for the name of your wireless nic ? I have looked up your hp model number and not all pc's come with the wireless built in adapter?:sarc:
