DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD after installing SEP Antivirus

Hi there

I have recently bought a new Asus N73SV laptop running windows 7 home premium x64, which is my main work computer.

I had trend micro plantinum internet security software that come with a 3 month trial, which once the trial ended I uninstalled and installed
Symantec Endpoint protection V 11.0.7200.1147 x64 version.

Ever since installing SEP I have been getting random bluescreens such as DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.
and other than SEP I do not know what is causing the bluescreens.

I have zipped up the minidumps and also the msinfo32 nfo files.

I would sincerely appreciate your assistant in finding out exactly what driver or device is exactly causing BSOD, if possible.

I understand the process of removing SEP in an attempt to resolve it, however if it is a driver causing it, I wouldnt mind finding out which one so I can check to see if there is an update to it. If anyone can advise on a suitable strong AV/firewall/malrware setup alternative other than SEP, I would appreciate that as well.

In every case it blames your Atheros network driver. It does look pretty old (June 2011) so you'll want to look for an update if at all possible. Also update your chipset drivers.

I cannot however ascertain cause beyond this. Minidumps do not retain information necessary to dig deeper. Still, it's recommended - if the driver update doesn't work - to turn on Driver Verifier and provide us more crashdumps from it. Do not select the following checks: Force Pending I/O Requests, IRP Logging, and Low Resource Sim. Make sure to restart system after you finish setup. If you experience a boot loop afterwards, go into Safe Mode by pressing F8 prior to Windows logo and disable DV there.

I have been looking into the Atheros network driver, forgive my ignorance , though at Asus support for the laptop it says the latest driver is as the attachment. I look at the Drivers for Atheros AR9285 and Windows 7 and it says the latest driver available is

Version: 10.0.0.45

Release: 2012-03-12 [March '12]​

so my newbie question is which is the "right" driver to install? Asus or the unofficial atheros website one? or is there somewhere else I should be looking for the driver? Apologies for my ignorance..​

The ASUS driver is the recommended driver to install. It is also the easier of the two since it has an application that will install the driver for you. The atheros.cz site provides only the drivers themselves, so you have to manually install them.

Yes, I concur, when you're dealing with OEM stuff, you always wanna go to the OEM first before resorting to actual hardware vendor solutions.
