Drivers problem ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 Series

Hi,

Before everything, I apologize for my English, because I'm Pole and when I have problems I use a translator.
OK, now my problem. I have an old laptop, Acer Aspire 2010 (for detailed specification you can go to my profile to System Spec bookmark) with Win 7.
Before I did formatting EVERYTHING WORKS FINE.

And problem is that, after formatting computer i can't correctly install drivers to my graphic card. It's quite complicated, i tried a lot of solution but none of them worked. I am going to explain this as easily as I can.
So, when i try to install drivers by normal way (version 6.5 for xp - newer drivers don't operate my graphic card), system show this communicate: http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/2481/graphiccardinstallation.png

When I saw this i realized I forgot to install Mainboard drivers, but there is problem with compatibility - there is no drivers for this Mainboard working with Win 7.
So I give up with Mainboard drivers and focused on graphic card. I can install these drivers in Troubleshooting Mode but there is another problem. When I shut down computer there shows bluescreen, always the same: http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/5489/dsc00389id.jpg. When I restart my computer, resolution is good (1280x800; without drivers 1024x768) but there is no transparency from Windows Aero.

I tried to use a Mobility Modder.net, but it won't works too.
I looked at maaany forums, but I can't find working solution of my problem, so, please, help.

Uninstall the driver for your video card. Let Windows try to install one on it's own. It may actually get it working correctly on its own. Right now, the driver you have installed is what is making you blue-screen.

I recently installed Win 7 on my Dell XPS M1210 Laptop, from 2006, and it installed all drivers correctly itself except for the Synaptics touchpad. Windows should be able to handle your video card from 2010 with no problem.

If it says it cannot find a driver or it was not properly installed, then try this:
AMD Driver Autodetect
(I was unable to find your specific card manually on the site.)

Windows Update can't found none of my drivers itself. It even didn't started because, I think, it just hadn't detected them.
And AMD Driver Autodetect have problem too, it said that it can't find any of theirs product in my computer.

Windows should be able to handle your video card from 2010 with no problem.

The 2010 mentioned is not when the GPU came out, but the model number of the laptop. The GPU in it, Mobility Radeon 9700 according to the Acer specs,

came out quite a bit earlier than that, 2004,

That is also why Klepow can't find any driver for it and why the AMD auto-detect utility won't work, there aren't any drivers for it for Windows 7 and there is no support for it in the utility as all support for it was dropped long ago. That is also why the 6.5 driver won't install as back then drivers for the laptop versions of both Nvidia and ATI GPU's could only be obtained from the laptop manufacturers (licensing reasons). The regular desktop drivers could only be installed after being modded to add the proper product ID to them.

The best you're going to get for it is the last XP driver, which you can get from here,

It may only list an Intel driver, but the ATI driver is in the download (I checked). You will likely have to use compatibility mode,

to get it to install. If the driver still won't install it could be due to the Intel 855GME chipset in it. If that is the case it is also unsupported and all supported ended long before Windows 7 (or Vista for that matter) came out. I would then try the chipset driver from the above Acer download link, and then try the video driver again.

If I'm understanding you correctly, try this:
Click "Start"
Right-click on "Computer"
Click "Manage"
In the left panel, click "Device Manager"
In the middle panel, right-click on [your computer's name]
Click "Scan for Hardware Changes"

Make note if there are any yellow question marks next to any device.
If the graphics card does show up, & if Windows doesn't prompt anything:

Right-click on the device listed
Click "Update Driver Software"
Click "Search automatically for updated driver software."
Follow any proceeding prompts.​

I'm going to look again for that driver.

Oh, sorry for understatement, 2010 is number of model, not year .
I now that the drivers ale unsupported, but before formatting everything worked fine.
I installed those 6.5 driver (last for this card) in Compatibility Mode, but that's the reason why bluescreen appeared every time I shut down the computer, also Aero Interface doesn't work. I tried Mobility Modder for my graphic card, but it won't work as well.
I also can't install drivers for my chipset, in Compatibility Mode too.

Of course drivers from page which you gave me and from few others too.

That is almost the same thing I came across a year back when installing Windows 7 on a friend's old local branded laptop (Axioo) with vga chip from SYS. All effort toward getting aero and transparency ended up unsuccessfully though vista driver were installed.

It is quite old issue, I described in 2009, however once again it happened to be a problem after fresh reinstallation of Win 7 (disk format) and Aero not working at all. Transparency also disappeared.

Three days looking for driver (problem was solved 3 years ago and already forgotten)

Maybe someone has the same problem with older laptops - so it is a solution:

1. start from standard VGA installed by win 7 during system installation process

2. install old driver for for XP (delivered by notebook producer); it results with better resolution but not aero and not transparency.

3. download driver for Radeon Pro 9700 - catalyst_8-31-100_vista32_rtm

4. unpack it - it creates folder ATI/SUPPORT/catalyst ...

5. go to control panel, device manager, and update manually driver for graphics card browsing to this folder described above.

6. it updates driver asking in the end for restart,

7. restart - Aero is again !!!

Nice to hear it works. It means that this driver is actually working in different older laptops with Radeon mobility 9600/9700 graphics. Problem is not a card itself but ATI catalyst software unable to install its own driver.

In fact I found some hints in the net so thanks other for help.
