Dual boot - remove 1st partition

Nope, Never had windows xp on it.

I cant boot to the windows anymore, so i wont be able to make a screen shot of the Disk Manager.
But before it was C as system and active.
I changed the active to Z, and now it wont boot anymore.

Tried booting with installation disk and selecting repair, but it didnt help.
So i recovered from an image i had.

That is before running bootbcd and changing active partition.

Is everything back to where it was, same as the Disk Management snip you sent?

If you have a boot problem, you can try startup repair from the installation DVD, but you will have to run it at least three times, it can only do one BCDEdit command at a time.

If both your Win7 partitions are still there and you run startup repair it will repair the boot for both OSs.

Did you run Startup Repair at least 3 times, as it has multiple issues to fix?

Use Partition Wizard bootable to rightclick>delete the first partition, rightclick>mark the second partition active, rightclick>resize/move the second partition to include the space in the first partition.

Then boot into the Win7 installer Repair My Computer console and run Startup Repair 3 times, as it has multiple repairs to make to recover the boot.

LOL - that ntldr message could have been fixed in 3 seconds.

Never mind.

Since you are back at square one - may as well try Greg's post .

SIW2 I only go the automated route because I'm not as smart as you with all those line commands:shock:!

Can you confirm that Startup Repair can repair a MBR that is deleted over?

Should it have handled his Ntldr issue too, if run enough?

MBR - yes, it should.

Doesn't always fix that ntldr error automatically.

The automated route is fine.

Sometimes it doesn't do the job - sometimes there is a quicker way.

Thank guys, i am gonna try gregs way.
One question though, will the automatic repair try to change my drives letter?
Cuz when i delete drive c, i will be left with windows on drive Z...

Ok i did everything, and windows loaded.
But it renamed my secind drive to C (from Z)
When my user loads it tells me it logged me into some temporary account, nd nothing works in there. I get "No sch interface supported" for every action i do...
There should be a way to do it without renaming the partition i think...

Have not heard of this error or problem.

But since you can boot into Windows 7, the solution is surely to run a Repair install over your installation which will sort everything out - including any possible gremlins still remaining in the boot.

Just run the Win7 installer from the desktop and choose Upgrade install (this is the repair install in Win7). Files, programs and settings will be untouched but the OS will be reinstalled underneath and any boot issues sorted out. Afterward you will need to reactivate at Computer>Properties.

Thanks a lot...

Thanks a lot... I had the same problem ... i had to install windows 7 in a New hard disk and wanted to use the old hard disk as slave... But when i tried to remove the windows 7 in the old HDD it was not possible.. then i used partition wizard.. it worked absolutely fine.. thanks a ton friends...
