Made the leap to Windows7 x64 and need to tap the collective knowledge base.

I'm currently triple booting Windows7 x64, Win7 RC1 and XP Pro using the BIOS (all on separate HDs).

As Win7 RC is set to cease functioning soon, can I install Windows7 x32 on the same machine as Windows7 x64? My concern is with the licensing and whether I will receive updates for both x32 and x64. I'd heard that you will only receive automatic updates on the most recently installed version. Can anyone confirm this? This wouldn't be the end of the world, but having just finished installing all of my applications in x64, it would be a major inconvenience. If it does effect the auto updates, can those updates be downloaded manually?

I saw this thread, but I'm guessing it's installing the same version (x64 & x64 or x32 & x32)

I've grown to appreciate a dual/ multi -boot machine. It allows me to test software trials and decide whether I like them before purchasing and installing them on my main OS (win7 x64). This keeps the registry for Win7 x64 cleaner and I don't have to worry about residual registry entries or files after uninstalling. It's a fantastic way to test things out.

Additionally, I've run into a problem where an application works fine in Win7 RC x32 but will not install in x64. I know about Win7 Pro having an XP mode, but is it worth the hassle and additional cost to upgrade to Pro? Re-booting to XP or RC1 is time consuming but easy. Is it possible to have XP mode running in the background and switch back and forth between them without having to close XP mode?

Thank you for sharing any insight you may have on the subject.

Try installing balky programs in XP compatibility mode first, using Compatibility tab on .exe Properties.

Track the program's progress toward Win7 compatibility. Run Win7 Upgrade Advisor on XP.

As to whether it is possible to run both Win7 64 and 32 bit on the same license, I have heard yes and no. It is on the exact same hardware config and MAC, so activation could well think it was being reinstalled on the same machine. And you can def install either on the same key.

You would have to try to know for sure.
