Dual boot XP error code stop 0x0000007b

hi guys, im hoping one of you can help me, im trying to dual boot XP onto my win 7 machine and its just not working! its getting to the "windows is starting setup" screen on installation then blue screening with a stop 0x0000007b (0xf7802524, 0xc0000034 0x0000000 0x0000000) error, im pretty sure its down to hard drive controllers, (it was being discussed here: http://www.sevenforums.com/chillout-room/70719-how-much-space-does-xp-need.html but there wasnt a solution so thought id ask "properly")

things i have tried: installing it with ACHI disabled and BIOS set to SATA mode,
Slipstreaming this: Direct Port Access Windows Driver [WINDPA.ZIP] SATA driver from Intel (only one i could find) and also the XP sata drivers from nvidia (my chipset manufacturor)
Slipstreaming SP3 + the above drivers in,

im now trying downloading the drivers direct from ECS see if that makes a difference

otherwise im out of ideas, hoping someone can help

Going to the support page for your motherboard was going to be my next suggestion in the other thread. That should get you the correct driver. I believe windows XP is going to look for an inf file so if the driver is in a zip file or some other compressed file make sure you unzip it first. I don't know anything about slip streaming drivers into the CD but I do know when you put the driver on a floppy it has to be in the root of the disk. If its in a folder windows won't find it. This floppy disk SATA/RAID driver issue with windows XP has been a pain for a lot of people.

thanks alphanumeric im now trying the motherboard manufacturor,
in theory the slipstreaming should integrate it seamlessly with the ISO (as i understand it) along with the other preinstalled drivers so i dont think that ones the issue, cheers for the suggestion though

cheers ted, leading on from what you were saying about the seperate storage controllers bit, i dont suppose the fact that its missing would have anything to do with this PC being built for Vista?

I'm not sure as we've discussed that yours has no IDE option in the BIOS, maybe you should state that here in this thread to see if you get a hit on that.

thats a good point additional info: I dont have an IDE option in my BIOS, just SATA RAID and ACHI

It sorta looks like the motherboard manufacturer assumes if you have an IDE hard drive you would use the IDE controller, so they didn't allow for an IDE mode in SATA?

Not that you would purchase one just for this project, but I did get a 45GB IDE Hard Drive for just $11USD ...

yeah iv given up on the idea now, it was only meant to be a quick project, its taken all day so far, :roflmao: im doing a virus scan on a VM, we'll see what happens cheers for everyone's help on this,

You'll have to go into your BIOS and change your boot order. I know doing this with XP would stop it from booting because of the path in the boot.ini file. I'm not sure what will happen with your current windows 7 install but don't be surprised if it doesn't work. Now we get to something nobodies mentioned yet. Normally if you were going to dual boot XP and 7 you would install XP first then 7. Windows 7 would see XP and setup the dual boot for you. have you considered that and what you have to do to make it work going the other way? You've got two partitions on that drive right?

I started to look for that info but got sidetracked. I'll have to start bookmarking some of this tuff. Thanks for posting that.
