Dual Monitors not working

I'm using an ACER X183H on my Vaio M with a Windows 7 OS. I'm using the monitor to extend my screen so that I can work properly but my laptop doesn't seem to detect it! It works fine and projects the display from my laptop onto the monitor, but I can't access the option to use the monitor as an extension of the screen.

I've tried updating my drivers, restarting but it doesn't work.

Windows 7 Starter edtion does not support more than one monitor,
