Dual OS -- XP W7

hey there's a problem my D: (XP) in Disk Management says its a logical drive when i right click , it says change driver letter paths , format .
there's no / mark as active / btw i finished creating system reserved partition S:
Well ... I tried to explain that you did not need the 100MB "System Reserved" partition and to just put the three XP files in your Windows 7 partition.

But since you have created the 100MB "System Reserved" partition, there are advantages to using it. THIS IS THE PARTITION THAT NEEDS TO BE MARKED ACTIVE NOW ... the "System Reserved" partition. THIS IS THE PARTITION THAT WILL HOLD THE BOOT CODE FOR BOTH WINDOWS 7 AND XP NOW.

That the XP partition is a "Logical" partition is not a problem.

Well ... without them XP will never boot for you. So since they are not there, you are going to have to do a repair install with XP. With XP, you use the Install CD and follow the path to Install XP again, BUT WHEN YOU GET TO THE PLACE WHERE THE INSTALLER SEARCHES FOR EXISTING OSs, it will offer to repair the existing XP. As you cannot mark a "Logical" drive (volume or partition) as "Active", you will need to decide this: WHEN YOU REPAIR XP, IT WILL PUT THE BOOT CODE IN THE ACTIVE PARTITION. So if you are going to use the "System Reserved" partition you just created as a boot partition, MARK IT ACTIVE BEFORE REPAIRING XP. If you are going to use your Windows 7 partition as the boot partition, mark it "Active" before you repair XP. When done you should find the boot files (ntldr, boot.ini, and NTDETECT.COM) in the proper place to setup your dual boot menu.

Later!
Robert
