Dual PS2 to USB

My Asus P8Z77-V has a dual PS2 socket and in my attempts to get extra USB ports I have tried internal cards etc and now I am thinking is there such an adaptor for the dual PS2 plug to two USB sockets that I can use for the keyboard and mouse to free up at least one or two USB on-board ports?

Have scoured around and this seems to be a simple answer to the lack of USB ports the back of my main machine.

Any ideas please ?

why not just buy a powered usb hub? you can get ones with 8 or more ports that will only take up 1 port on your pc.

Yep Badger I have a non powered four port hanging out of one 2.00 USB port now that does leave me one port . It does for the KB and mouse and I guess if I have to I will buy on of those powered ones not expensive I suppose.

Gav yes mate have just been down that track with some rather "unfortunate" results. The card I got a four port 3.0 USB one was such a sloppy fit and I mean SLOPPY it almost fell sideways and then only just worked out of the spare PCIe slot until it finally gave up and it was sent back for the supplier to test.
I was just scratching round for an alternative and thought there is a port going begging - ah well tanks for the replies lads I will figure something out

John, do you have spare USB headers on the motherboard? If you have 2 USB headers on the motherboard you could get something like this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...eader_to_usb_ports-_-9SIA27C18W7210-_-Product

If you only have one header just get a single with 2 ports.

Also, many USB devices won't work with a ps2 adapter. I understand the ps2 don't supply the power of the USB.

Yep Steve I went down that track with an Astrotek four port card and it was such a sloppy fit and ended up fitting it into a PCIe slot as the samllx1 slot would not work and one is hidden beneath the GPU.
To summarize it ended not working so it is in transit back to the supplier for checking.
The reason I want a few is that I have the kb, mouse, printer, the UPS lead, an external back up drive and two of the back panel ports are already taken up with the through leads for the front panel as I have it and a card reader so ports are at a premium.

John, look at the link. It is not a pcie card, it is just a backplate that has wires to connect to usb headers on your board. Each header will give you 2 USB ports. This is your board.

lol the usb headers label should be pointing to the circled item not the sata ports! just pointing it out for anyone else looking in!

That was a real constructive comment. The USB Headers is not labeled at all and not pointing anywhere, or maybe you think I pointed out the PCIe slots too.

John, look at the link. It is not a pcie card, it is just a backplate that has wires to connect to usb headers on your board. Each header will give you 2 USB ports. This is your board.

Yep Steve I knew they were meant for the headers and if I don't get any joy with that card from the supplier I will go for something like that. I was being a bit "adventurous" wanting the 3.0 USB but at the same time know that they are not that much faster than 2.0 UB as I think I saw you mention here a while ago on a post. Gary has also told me that in the past but I am a bit gung ho by nature when it comes down to it

Nothing wrong with USB 3.0, and they are faster than USB 2.0, just not as fast as all the claims. You can usually get somewhere in the neighborhood to 2-2.5 times faster than USB 2.0. But, you wont come close to the '10 times faster' that they always advertise. In my opinion, yes, they are worth it and will shorten transfer times a lot. Just don't expect what they advertise. That is in a lab under perfect circumstances and set up. It is basically a theoretical speed they are capable of.

Yep know at you are saying mate most of what I want plugged in doesn't really need the speed just a connection. The only connection I want any speed and it isn't that critical is the image drive.

Layback Bear brings up some excellent options. If it is speed you are looking for, eSata is much faster than USB 3.0.
