patti ,this is how to take a screenshot including the sart menu.

1- press ctrl and prtsc or print screen at the same time
2- open paint from the start menu /all programs/accessories/paint
3- click the cursor in paint window then press ctrl and v
4- then save the image, easiest is to save it to desktop
5- then attach it to your post by clicking the paperclip symbol and browse to your desktop
upload ,then when it has finished uploading click the paperclip again when it shows the screenshot name then click that .

The screenshot was there - I saw it!!! No Arc, I don't want to get rid of the "desktop", I just want to get rid of some of the programs in it that aren't on my desktop like libraries, control panel, computer, network, etc. I never used to have those on there. I don't know how they got there

I can duplicate what you are referring to, and I get a similar list if I choose to display the Desktop toolbar. I can't explain why there are entries for Library, Control Panel, etc., in the desktop list, when they don't actually appear on the Desktop, but they are also listed if you use Windows Explorer and click on Desktop in the left panel. It seems this toolbar provides you access to all of these features so that it isn't necessary to use the Start button.

i added desktop to a toolbar and i see the same items including the libraries ,does it change if you click " lock the taskbar ,as i see you havent locked yours. the little dotted lines show that it isnt locked they dissappear when its locked.

Yours disappeared when you locked it? Mine didn't. I have even tried deleting them and they ask you if you are sure, but they still stay there. I guess I can live with it. Just curious how they just appeared there one day.

when you hover the cursor over "toolbars" and a window opens to the side there will be some ticks to do with address try unchecking the tIcks and see if they go. you could do a screenshot whilst the toolbar window is open for us to see,

It didn't change anything except take the whole desktop away when I unticked it. Other than that, nothing.

What you are seeing is the built-in, default Desktop Toolbar behavior. Unless someone has a way to modify the registry the shortcuts in it can't be changed.

It used to be fine just a few weeks ago, but since then I ran malwarebytes and cCleaners registry and right after that is when I noticed the added programs. So running those did something that changed it. Thanks everyone.

Go to Start rb: type in Desktop and hit enter. The folder which opens contains what will be shown in the Desktop Toolbar. The default Windows icons like Libraries or Control Panel can't be moved, but you can place all of your created ones in another folder and they won't show then.
Place the new folder on the desktop. Right click the Taskbar\New Toolbar and browse to the new folder. this will make a toolbar entry with what you want, then uncheck the Desktop one.

its possible that it wasn't working correctly to start with and after a scan it started to perform as it should.
i have to say i see the same as you in the desktop list.
after hovering on toolbars what do you see on the list starting with address.



keep a tick on desktop and remove any others then click lock the taskbar, to see if we can get rid of the dotted lines

Thank you. So glad this will work for you. I had never used New Toolbar and gave it a go and it worked. Now you can add anything to that new folder, program shortcuts, music, text files, etc. and will be there on the new toolbar.

HELP, PLEASE HELP!!! In doing all the above, I lost my expense folder. All I have are the shortcuts. I probably deleted it somehow. OMG - does anyone know how to get it back.

Oh-oh. Check in recycle Bin to see if it's there. If not a restore point may restore it. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html#post4405

None of the system restores would work and it is not in the recycle bin
