I'm getting conflicting information about graphic cards

Hi,

So I'm in Mexico where it's almost impossible to find anyone skilled in anything, let alone computers.

I thought I found a really good guy who cleaned my computer well.

He told me that the video card (From 2017) had a fan problem & that was the noise I was hearing.

He told me I didn't need a new video card because there's an internal one, but when I went onto Reddit, I had 2 people tell me there is no internal graphics card. I was also told that the card goes onto the CPU when I thought it attaches to the MB.

I was upset not knowing who to trust.

I contacted both AMD (CPU) & MSI (MB) & both said there's no internal & it does attach to the CPU, but I don't necessarily trust tech support either.

I reached out to the computer guy again & he said on the links I gave him it shows a video port or something on the MB. He's confusing me & everyone else is confusing me as well. He claims he has 10 years experience, so how is it that he doesn't know any of this?

Here's the 2 links. I can send you a pic of the back of my computer, but I don't know how that helps to determine if there's an internal & I can't believe the CPU doesn't have an internal card. It's not expensive, but it's not cheap either.

I'm on Win 7 & here's my speccy - http://speccy.piriform.com/results/aTwif87CE8ds0RcpW5rkN8s

AMD Ryzen 7 5700 - Ryzen 7 5000 Series 8-Core 3.7 GHz Socket AM4 65W None Integrated Graphics Desktop CPU Processor - 100-100000743BOX - Newegg.com

You need a graphics card that cpu does not have in built graphics. Make sure you get one that has windows 7 drivers.

So why is the techie guy saying I don't need one & What's the difference between a graphics card & a video card?

And what's a video adapter in relation to all of this?

He says that on the MB there's a video output. I'm not sure what that means in relation to everything.

I'm very confused.

Thanks

The motherboard specs doesn't say anything about integrated graphics so it has to be a card. Your speccy report gives the make and model. A loud fan could either be a graphics card fan or a chipset fan. Chipset fans can be replaced. I'm not sure about a gpu fan.

Yes but it will only work if the cpu has in built graphics. Your cpu does not

Oh, are you saying there's 2 elements to this? Both the MB & CPU have to work in tandem & so, if there's no internal card then it doesn't matter if there are video ports on the MB?

I still don't understand what those ports are for.

P.S. MSI told me this would work on Win 7, do you think it's ok?

I only asked them what they had b/c I was already talking to them trying to find out if I had an internal.

I don't know if they make good video cards. The price is ok, less then what I paid last time, & supposedly much better than what I have now. Unless you have a different recommendation.

It has to work on Win 7, & while I never plan on switching to Win 10 on this desktop, just in case I'm forced to by you know who, Win 10.

Access Denied

Thanks

Did you read what SIW2 said? I think he finally got me my answer.

The guy showed me that it's the graphics card fan that's making the noise, assuming he didn't make a mistake. I sort of remember it not making noise after he put his finger on it. I didn't know I was going to have to go thru all of this just to figure out what the issue is.

Greetings ep2002,

A Video Card and a Graphics Card are the same thing.

An Intergrated * Graphics Card is a chip loc ated within your motherboard and/or your CPU which lets you have a basic video signal to your monitor and some basic Graphics acceleration (The thing that makes your desktop, video and games smooth), usually not that much powerful, good for basic tasks.

*Internal

Then there is the Discrete Graphics card, which is a separate device which connects to your motherboard using PCI-Express (a wide linear connector near your CPU), which has much more processing power, usually used for gaming.

Now, your motherboard does NOT have Intergrated Graphics. Since now your Discrete Graphics card is defunct according to your technician, you have to buy a new one. Either the same model or a Windows 7-Compatible one if you still want to use this Operating System

Hope I have helped. I gave you the simplest clarification I could think of.
If you need more help, just say it. ;)

Best of luck, with your future computing endeavors!
