Hello,

Recently my IDE dvd burner is not showing up in any way in Windows 7 Professional. I have not idea what caused this - it seems to have just randomly disappeared.

I have tried:
Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs
and
DVD drive and cd drive is not detected! - CD-ROM-DVD-ROM - Storage
and probably some other things on the Windows support site. It is not a matter of changing my folder view options.

The drive is plugged in and powered. It opens and closes fine. I can boot from a disk as well, no problems, but in Windows, nothing.

I am at a loss. Regardless of what I try I cannot get this thing to show up anywhere, device manager, my computer, etc.

If anyone has any ideas, I would be much appreciated! If there is an easy fix, it would beat reformatting!

Thanks!

Welcome to Seven Forums. First thing to try is to see if your BIOS see's your drive, if it is there there are other things to try. Once you have established your BIOS see's it or doesn't see it we can go further in troubleshooting this issue.

hi gathman2, and welcome to sevenforums, you'll like it here,

intel chipsets don't support ide anymore, and so motherboard manufacturers usually stick on an extra chip for this job.

your board (which happens to be the same as mine), uses a jmicron jmb363 chip for ide duties.

i assume it's already enabled if you can boot from this drive, but to make sure, look in the bios settings: integrated periperals >> onboard pci device >> set 'storage controller' to enabled, and sata mode to 'ide'

then you'll probably need to download and install the driver. you'll want the one second from bottom of the list, which includes both 32 and 64 bit flavours.

...or buy yourself a sata drive :p

Wow! Thanks you both for the quick replies and the help!

I know I need a sata driver but the money is tight right now (even though the're like 20 bucks, haha).

Anyway, everything was appearing as you both said, so I tried installing that driver, and EUREKA! It works!!

This had been throwing me for a loop so thank you both so much!
