DVD Burning Software

Hi Guys can anybody reccomend a decent DVD burning software capable of burning Movies and Data to disks, preferably free but I don't mind paying for something decent and please do not reccomend Nero tried that on demo and hated it.

Freeware:
For Movies I find that Windows DVD Maker does it very well, thats already included in Window (do a start menu search) http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/54090-windows-dvd-maker-how-use.html

IMGBurn is IMO the best burning software out there The Official ImgBurn Website although it doesn't do Movies (or at least not ones that will play on a DVD Player)

Payware:
Again, I would use IMGburn which is free, so doesn't really count, but for the Movies look at ConvertXtoDVD http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/ it doesnt just do AVI's although it says it does.

I use Ashampoo Burning Studio 9. There's a new version out but it works great!

It's great for converting movies to DVD but it doesn't burn Data as the OP is requesting.

If you are just talking about the burning I use Imgburn for all things DVD. It will even burn DL discs setting a layer break for video DVDs. For data DVDs just use the Write Files/Folders to Disc option and set the file system types to support such as Joliet or whatnot, to suit what you want to be able to read the disc back on.

For files --> DVD Movie

ConvertX is the the easiest, and just works.
The downside is, picture quality itself is really poor. It does however, convert most any format to DVD rather quickly with a fast 1 pass encode.


Cyberlink has a DVD authoring program (Power Director) as well that works well, although a bit pricey.

I just use Nero Vison & Recode for mine :-/

Sadly these are the only 2 I know of that do a decent job. Most of the free ones Ive tried end up having horrible quality in the end, or are lacking options.

(Like for making Home videos into DVDs)


For everything else, if DATA burning isnt included in your choosen app, IMGburn is really good for most all of your burning needs, and free.

Sorry couldnt be more help. As I say, most of the free ones Ive tried just looked horrible and I wouldnt recommend trying something to anyone I wouldnt use myself.

For DVD Authoring what features do you need really?
If your looking for something to create menues, title screens, cut & edit files to make a DVD will make a difference in whats available
as opposed to something that will simply convert a file to DVD format and burn it.

For playing avi/divx on stand-alone DVD player, you can get upscaling UltraDivx DVD players for < $60. Rather than convert to DVD I just pull the .avi file into AviDemux with all the "automation" options checked, and save. Takes less than 5 minutes. Then burn to a DVD using Imgburn. Only thing is I think now Divx DVD players are in a state of flux. They are moving to .mkv to support playing HD resolution stuff directly. The DVD players I have won't play an .avi that's not SD resolution. Rather than continuing to downsize .avi only to play on an upscaling player, I got a WD set top box. It has it's own quirks, but the output looks good for reasonable money.

For fast avi to dvd conversion, especially if you have a multi-core system, check out FAVC. If you learn to use .avs scripts and demux then HC Enc can be used by itself to get a video stream, then just use a free authoring program. There are lots of free encoders that produce very high quality results, but you have to invest some time to learn to use them. Hanging out on a video forum will help a lot.

I have decided to go with a program called DVD FAB and will try that for a month and see how that goes

DVDFab is meant for ripping DVDs to your hard drive, not the other way around. It also won't let you burn data DVDs. It sounds like you want something like CDBurnXP, which is updated frequently, and is free.

Thanks Deacon, that CDBurnXP seems to be what I am looking for , and is free what more could a guy ask for
