DVD drive loses power as IDE is connected

This is a sort of double post as the issue has changed from a bios/ installation thing to... ehh I don't know.

So I was swapping drives to make sure my drive wasn't shot and I plugged the power into the DVD drive first and it green lighted and started spinning. Then I plugged the IDE cable in and the drive stopped, no lights no spiny spiny. Pulled the IDE cable back out at it fired back up again. I repeated that like a monkey for a few minutes... Anybody know whats going on?

The main reason why I asked is some of the older cables are not keyed and its easy to plug them in backwards.

Have you ever had issues with this driver before??

Why not just scratch the cable could be old and non responsive anymore i have had this happen to me a time or two those cables wear out too

and if it went from green to red then off the cable is doing something funny

The bios is fine as I recently replaced my bios chip all together with success. I think I've got a bad mobo... it doesn't notice my hard drives either.

.... How are you "replacing" your bios chip.... That MoBo doesn't support swappable chips.
