Burning a data disk using Windows Explorer

Windows 7 has a useful tool to burn any type of data/music file onto a RW disk with an installed optical drive. We are trying to narrow down this issue because the possibility of hardware failure seems un-likely! Since Windows 7 does see a disk in the drive our next test will determine if Nero is the issue.
Walt, if you have Itunes you may want to consider trying to copy a music disk by copying some music if you have an Itunes music library.
If not we will attempt to burn any type of data you select onto a removable media disk blank loaded into your RW optical drive.
Attached is a screenshot for you to review, keep in mind that using windows exporer is the same as copying any file onto a HDD.
So here is the screenshot for you to review.
Also you can consult the help feature in your Pc with Windows 7.

OK I tried clicking Start then computer. After I doubled clicked my disk burner, then clicked "like a USB flash drive" (it would not allow me to make the other selection) clicked next. It then tells me that the disk is write protected.

How to Burn

When I double click DVD/CD-RW drive the window appears asking me how I want to use this disk. Like a USB flash drive is marked and I cannot choose the other "With a CD/DVD player. Also on the top of the window where you can see the progress of the request it doesn't stop and the circle which use to be an hourglass doesn't go off.

Can you give me your Motherboard Manufacturer and model please?

Did not install a new driver. I did add an external drive. Motherboard is a Dell, model OFF049.

After reviewing your system specs, it seems your pc is over 3 years old. Its probable that Windows 7 has some incompatabilities with your system, therefore I would like you to refresh your chipset and you can do this by following the link I'm providing you. The 1 thing that concerns me is that there are no more updates after 2007, that goes for the bios updates also. Here is the link:

I've updated my system spec now, I've installed Windows 7 ultimate 32bit. Again, any help would be much appreciated. TIA

is he trying to use the cd/dvd like a usb drive ? therfore if he has nero that uses incd to use the cd/dvd as a data drive ??? so why not use in cd
