Hello prethankyou for reading and responding to this post and for the helpful incite (or not so helpfull least ya tried) ok so
comp specs

windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
gtx 580
i7 2.6k ghz
i cant remeber motherboard atm my apologies but its newer.
using realtek audio drivers.

I am using hdmi as my video out and it produces sound through my tv. when i plug in a standard headphone (which works with my ipod) into the front 3.5mm jack no sound comes out. I disable front jack detection and still nada. However when i disable the front jack it suddenly says headphones plugged in however still no sound. I have tried with the exclusivity mode on and off for this test. I tried the back 3.5mm jack as well and nada.

So then i try with m earforce dx11 turtle beach pluging in the spdif still nada. i try plugging it in with just the usb pink and green 3.5mm in btoh the front and back panels an still nada. so yea any ideas? i have no other monitor but my tv so i can't test if the hdmi is the problem.

also note- when plugged in the front pannel i can hear my self talking and its coming through the headphones but no computer sound will.

Hello BerryBuzz,:D Welcome to Seven Forums!

Have you tried adjusting the individual volume controls for different types/inputs of sound (since your headphones MUST be working if you can hear yourself (I'm assuming you mean through when you speak through the microphone? any clarification may help. Because if you happen to mean your recorded voice, then there shouldn't be any difference between that and a "normal sound file"!?! Also may want to check the Device manager to be sure there's no obvious driver issues.

Is this something you just noticed happening even though you've been using headphones for a while now, or is this a problem with it's origin not really something you can point toward, because you've never really used headphones?

Because If you have an idea of when it started, there's error reports, the windows update install history and system restore points that may prove to be useful in your problem.

Any helpful clarification?
Thanks,
Mike:)

No both the 3.5mm jacks have never worked when i just bought it. All the drivers were on a cd from the vendor and were updated.

and yes i can hear myself speak in the headphones but its not sending the sound from the tv to the headphones. (turtles use spdif plug in the back also the hardware is correctly setup already made sure of that from the manual)
