And then their are those conspiracy theorists. I read an article that they said the Haiti quake was cause by the US having a weather altering and earthquake causing weapons test. Followed by us taking over the countries only airport with US troops under the guise of humanitarian aid. This test was supposedly a precursor to using it on Iran.Blah blah blah. I think it's just the Earth getting things back in line again. More seismic activity and the occasional volcano can lower the average temperature a few degrees. Not such a bad thing when the average temperature is "supposedly" getting warmer.

Unfortunately.... Us people stand in the way, and casualties result. The earth has ben doing this long before we showed up. We were lucky to go through a fairly innactive period of late.

In years gone by, earth quakes have been less frequent, however, it is becoming more of regular event.

Were they less frequent or have communications gotten much better - and a larger population?

and as far as the ice on the poles..... it had been advancing back between 1300's and 1800's so its only natural that it would receded again

Many more earthquakes are reported than in the past. This is because of the vast improvement in instrumentation & communications, rather than an increase in the number of earthquakes.

Earquakes are hot. Maybe natural disasters of all kinds are hot in the news lately becuase of all the natural disaster movies as of late, global warming fear, etc. News follows trends (including aping what other people think is news, news or not). They tell you what they think you want to hear on subjects they think you want to know about more than actually giving "good information" in nearly every case.
