Solved edit registry w/o Win 7?

I started the process a little before 6 this morning. so, closing in on 7 hrs. I have dual 2.8 G processors, not fast by today's standards but it works pretty promptly for most tasks.

Yes, all the drives were disconnected both internal and external.
Yes, did that first.

Good now using diskpart
select the drive.
then
just in case the thing is still dynamic,
CONVERT BASIC

Let me know what you see.

The selected disk is not a dynamic disk. Select a dynamic disk to convert to basic.

Great. That's what I expected, but had to be sure.

Now with the disk selected:
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 1
FORMAT FS=NTFS
ACTIVE
ASSIGN
EXIT

Looks like the sequence should be:
install Win7 Home Premium
download update to Professional & install
download & install WinXP mode
I thought it best to wait for your consultation before starting install.

I took some time off and am back now.

The procedure from hee on out should be easy and move at a decent rate.

I'm going to review everything. I don't like to overlook anything or give inaccurate advice. Most would just charge ahead but I'm cautious.

The one thing that will absolutely essential for the install procedure is that only the disk that you just finished cleaning and formatting is the ONLY drive.

You have already prepared the disk rather well.

Tell you what, I don't think I missed anything esseential. so lets' go ahead with a clean install per this tutorial.

Please, please read that tutorial. If you have any questions re the tutorial then let me know.

When you do the install, don't be surprised if the install stalls for what seems to be an eternity. My installs always went smoothly and in a reasonable time frame, but others have had other experiences.

whew. Glad you are again available. I delayed a while, but just in the past few minutes I started the clean install. I read through the clean install tutorial, and several others, before starting. Yes, the only disk in the system is the drive that was prepped last night.
The install is at the step, "completing installation"
