I just installed Windows 7 RC1 from having Windows XP SP3. However i had some NTFS encrypted files on Win XP which i forgot to decrypt before upgrading, and i did not backup the certificate.

Thankfully, the Windows 7 install backed up my old windows directory to Windows.Old.

I DID NOT manage to find the Certificated in "C:\Windows.old\Documents and Settings\[....]". I don't have a location "Application Data\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\My\Certificates\" below it.

How can I retrieve my EFS key from my old XP (windows.old) so i can open those green-marked files?

Will really appriciate your advise!! :sarc:

Thanks
Erez

look for the file that has a .pfx extension from your windows.old folder. i found mine in the users/mydocuments folder. and then double click and just follow the wizard.. once you're done, go to your encrypted files and open it..you should be able to access it already..cheers..hope i'm able to help..
