Solved Embedded YouTube Videos in IE9 don't work

Hi, sorry if this has already been asked but I did some quick searches and couldn't find it. From what I've seen on the internet, my problem for some reason appears unique. I don't think there's anything that can be done, but I'm asking here in case someone else has had my problem.

I run IE9 32-bit on Win7 Home 64-bit and have Flash installed and working perfectly (youtube.com videos work and ads work). However, whenever I go to a site with embedded youtube videos, they don't show up (the site that triggered this post is here). What I see is a blank space with in the corner. When I load the page, I see a light gray youtube logo which fades away to the blank space. I can see the videos if I open the source and find the video Id (I have to change the url to show the youtube player; if I try to navigate to the embed swf file, IE asks to download it). I've uninstalled flash using Adobe's uninstaller and reinstalled it, but still no luck.

The most interesting part about this is that if I run as administrator, the embedded videos show up! As it so happens, even though my account is the only one on this computer, it has normal user privileges, and i created another administrator account so I am not using an admin account all the time. Naturally, I have to run the flash installer as admin, which I would have thought is the reason why I can't play embedded videos, except for the fact that flash works everywhere else.

Thanks for your time, though I don't think there are many options for fixing this (I would prefer not to reinstall Windows).

By the way, I just found out the FLTron (the homepage lobby screen) doesn't work either. I know for a fact that it used to work soon after we first got this computer, and now it doesn't. It could be not working after I changed the main account to non-admin and created a different admin account, and IE and Flash didn't realize the difference or something.

Having the same problem with 32bit machines. Flash works unless it's embedded on a page. I can see the still frame of the video, but when I click to play it goes white and will flicker in and out when I move the cursor around.

We've tried uninstalling and reinstalling evreything: IE9, Flash. Running debuggers, activeX settings, add-ins and everything we could find. Even went so far as to re-image the machine after running some registry cleaners that seemed to fix the problem, but then jacked up everything else.

Only current work around is to roll back to IE8.

I've run out of ideas, so I'm posting here in hopes someone, somewhere has found the solution.

The link you posted is being blocked by Malwarebytes realtime on my computer. I wonder whether IE9 is doing something similar with you.

@kado897 For some reason, the domain name the link points to expired, and the link just shows one of those useless placeholder "search" pages. So, antivirus and firewall blocking probably didn't apply when I had the problem, especially since it happened to a lot of other pages also.

Anyway, I believed I solved the problem, but a while after creating this thread, so I forgot to mark it as solved. The problem lies in the fact that Flash requires admin rights to install (like most programs), but when it modifies the registry to allow IE to use the plugin, the registry information is owned by the administrator, and can't be read by a regular user. Basically, the information that should be telling IE to use the Flash plugin is restricted to admin users only.

The solution lies here: windows 7 - Embedded video is not shown in Internet Explorer 9 RC or Beta - Super User. It involves editing the registry as an administrator, so be sure to make a backup first. I also think it needs to be done every time Flash updates. Of course, a more permanent solution would be to use another browser like Firefox or Chrome... I tried Firefox and it worked even when IE9 didn't.

Still a no go for me. I'm am an admin (and tried running IE as an admin for good measure) on this machine and I get the same thing. Flickering videos, but only when embedded.
Another user at my work has just reported the same thing.

Finally found the fix for mine. Disable the hardware accelerator with Microsoft Fix it 50762.
