Solved Envy 24 5.1 sound works in vlc, the control panel but not in wmp wmc

How to get this to play using the minijacks surround sound in wmp and wmc?

VLC does play all the 5.1 channels, center with voices ok..
wmp and wmc only play stereo.

I went thru speaker setup for both wmp and wmc.

I finally solved this problem with help from the thegreenbutton.tv web site.

WMC was trying to bitstream the sound out of this card, even though in sound settings panel it was set to speaker, NOT spdif.

The fix is to

To test this theory, go to Tasks > Settings > TV > Audio. Check the box to enable Auto volume, then select Save. See if live TV results in audio output after enabling Auto volume.

And then it plays in WMC speaker test.
