I can't seem to find a driver for my EPL-8000 laser printer and Windows 7, and searching online comes up with nothing. I just switched from XP, and the only driver for that version was on the XP install disc. Can I somehow use the XP version of the driver? Windows and Epson doesn't have anything for Windows 7 and my printer. Is it even compatible?

Thanks
Tonya

I tried to find information about your printer and Win7 but nothing.
Please downlaod and run the Win7 Hardware compatibilty program and it may tell you on way or another.

Welcome to seven forums tonyaquiltus: From what I have found this is an older printer. My suggestion is if you have the XP driver disc. Them in a file on your desktop and try to install them in compatibility mode. Right click the setup.exe file>click compatibi drop down menu select XP>then check the box run in compatibility mode. Run the setup file a s administrator. If thiis doesn't work and your printer shows up in device manager we can try to force the install. Please post back. Thanks. Fabe

Can I pull the drivers off the WinXP disk? Or where would I look to find then on my other computer that still has XP? Can I just copy the driver over?

I am wonder if I should just keep an XP computer, since I can't afford a new printer right now.

Hi Tonya,

You're looking at a fairly old printer there and there are no drivers for Windows 7. If you still want/need to use the printer since it works under XP I would suggest you stick with XP until you can replace the printer.

Your other choice is to "try" the procedures in the link below with a Windows 98 CD If you have one). Under Windows 7, choose Windows 98 compatibility mode on the 98 CD and try the procedures in the link below. Make sure the printer is hooked up to Windows 7. I'm not sure this is going to work but its worth a shot.

Epson America, Inc. - Epson EPL-8000, FAQ - Technical Support

Edit - OK, playing around with my 98 CD, try this for drivers if the above doesn't work (probably won't)...

Again, If you have a Win 98 CD, pop it in. Now, with the printer installed, once it asks for drivers search the CD for the driver by navigating to CD Drive:\drivers\printers\epson, from there look for your printer and try installing the drivers. You may have to do Win 98 compatibility mode.

Again, I'm not sure this is going to work so...

Good luck.

Wow, I never would have thought to keep Win98 disk. I did look through my drawer of old disks, and I don't have it. Bummer. Thanks for the suggestion though. Yes, it is a very old and very large boat anchor, but it has been so reliable for sooooo many years.

So no chance that I could find the driver by browsing on the XP disk? Going to have a look now....

In case the link expires (Epson America, Inc. - Epson EPL-8000, FAQ - Technical Support) :)

Q: Where can I find a driver for Windows 98?
A: Epson's printers are fully compatible with Microsoft Windows 98 and drivers are available on the Windows 98 installation CD from Microsoft. Epson provides drivers for our newer model printers for Windows 98.

If you are upgrading from Windows 95 to Windows 98, with Epson Windows 95 drivers already installed, nothing special needs to be done. The conversion takes place automatically during the upgrade process.

To install a new driver under Windows 98, please follow the instructions listed below:

1. Insert the Windows 98 CD-ROM in the drive and click on 'Start' 'Settings' 'Printers'.
2. Double-click on the 'Add New Printer' icon.
3. Click 'Next' until you reach the window that lists all printer manufacturers and models.
4. Under Manufacturers highlight Epson, under Printers highlight your printer model or if unlisted, choose the closest alternate model listed in your user's manual.
5. Click 'Next'
6. Select the desired port and click on 'Next'.
7. The next prompt will list the name of the printer and ask if you want to set this as the default printer. Either select 'No' or 'Yes' and click on 'Next'.
8. The last prompt will ask 'Do you want to print a test page?'. Click on 'Yes' and 'Finish'.
9. Windows 98 will now copy the necessary files to the hard drive and print the test page.

You could try the same procedures I prescribed for 98 ;)

Good luck.

PS - If I looked hard enough I'm sure I'll find my Windows 95 CD :D

Oh yes, I found the driver on the xp disk, but when it went to install, I get an error window that says, "Printer driver was not installed. Access is denied." What is up with that? I am the only user on here. Any thoughts?
