Hope someone can help and this is in the right place, please move it if not - but in words of one syllable please for a computer idiot if possible.

Last few weeks my mouse (MS wireless 1000) has acted strangely in that sometimes, if I scroll down then the screen will shoot upwards again so I have to scroll down again but sometimes works fine and it's driving me mad! Not sure if it is a mouse problem or something else. Computer says it's working correctly. Also makes no difference if I change to new batteries. Some help would be very much appreciated; thank you.

So glad I've found this forum, I've missed the ComputerActive one since it shut down!

Sorry, Zoostorm W 7, Home Premium x 64.

I think that your scroll wheel encoder has a fail. Did you dropped any liquid over the mouse?
I would try any other mouse with scroll wheel (wired or wireless).

Thanks; have to admit, haven't tried another mouse yet but will do. Will let you know.

As to liquid, quite possibly when a puppy jumped up!

If you consider that the mouse is no longer usable, you can try to fix it.
Open the back plate and remove the battery. Look for a small screw. Also look for one under the label.
Once the screw(s) is removed, take the scroll wheel from the encoder. Be gentle.
If it's dirty with coffee or any water soluble liquid, put the encoder under water for half a hour. Then wash it under running water. Dry it as possible and then spray a contact cleaner. Assemble it and see if it works.
