Hi, I'm facing a problem: I just installed and activated Windows 7 and when I search for updates, I get an error 80072efe.

I've read that it's usually related to connection problems, but I can ping whatever and access any website, although I get a "Windows couldn't detect automatically the proxy configuration" (or something like that) if I click on troubleshooting network problems (it's strange this is only happening on this computer that I have with Windows 7).

I don't know if it's because drivers are missing (I haven't installed any of them yet), because I guess the ISO I used for installing Windows is the right one (Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x64 Spanish: https://archive.org/download/digital_river/x17-58859.iso - SHA-1 C3A2E4922CFB9A0DF06F338E82907B5F85757196)

I'm on a Dell Vostro 3500, with a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bits, correctly activated.

Thanks so much.

Why, would anyone today, after installing Win-7, NOT turn OFF Windows Updates?

It's already past its EOS date!

It may be just my opinion, but any update you would get from Microsoft today would be one to try to force you to upgrade to Windows 10. Yes, I've seen that in the past.

I'm not having it!

Today, I have ten running computers, and several still have Windows 7 on them, and on every one Windows updates are turned OFF. And I've even run the program, "Never Ten" on every one.

I "Pitty the fool" (quote Mr. T.) who does not just turn Windows Updates OFF, on Windows 7.

I can't find my post from about 5 minutes ago on Windows Update error code 80072EFE. I said I'd be back to let you know how I made out downloading KB3138612. That did fix it!

Hi all,

I have the same issue as the TS, but in my case the "new" update agent refuses to install, stating: "this update is not valid for your computer" (translated as my W7 is in Dutch).

Ergo, I simply can't update anything right now. Any help would be much appreciated of course.
