So I launched my PC the other day and was greeted with a BSOD. System repair didn't work so I decided now would be a good time to install the Samsumg 840 EVO SSD that has just been sitting in my room for a while.

So I unplugged the harddrive and then plugged in the SSD, but when installing I was greeted with error code 0x8007045D.

The error appears during the "Expanding files" part of the install at around 4%, and the dialogue advises to check for missing files.

Here's all of the things I've tried:

  • Downloading an ISO from digital river
  • Microsoft's own USB boot drive software AND command prompt
  • Running Memtest - it came out clear
  • Changing from ACHI to IDE mode
  • Undoing all overclocking on the system
  • Cleaning the SSD with the command prompt
  • Resetting the BIOS settings to default
  • Disabling secure boot
  • Unplugging any unnecessary peripherals

Those are all the things I can think of.

Has anyone got any more ideas? It's really frustrating that I can't use my PC at all at the moment (especially with Thief about to come out - I've been excited for ages! :P)

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install:

Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here. I would use a fresh ISO written with tool in Step 2 as yours is in question.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of wiping the HD and marking Active which overcomes certain install failures.

Thanks for your reply!

I followed your instructions but am still greeted with the following dialogue once "Expanding Files" reaches 4%:

"Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all the files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x8007045D"

Did you use a new ISO burned w tool provided because you still have a bad installer?

I used the links you provided yes

I've had the same error code using both an ISO created from my own disk and downloaded from the internet

I don't suppose anyone else has any other ideas? Not having a PC to use is really infuriating :/
